Know what you prefer. Is a firm mattress your preferences? Do you like percale sheets that “sleep cool”? Do you like the soft weight of a duvet or the unique warmth of a coverlet? When looking at weave, percale and sateen are two popular choices. Percale feels light and crisp. Sateen is smooth and silky but may not be as cool. Shop around and touch fabric samples to determine what you like.
Make sure it fits. With the advent of more and more advanced mattresses, there is no one standard mattress depth anymore. When mattress shopping and sheet set shopping, measure carefully and read labels and descriptions. Your new memory foam mattress may require “deep pocket” sheets instead of a “standard” size.
