Percale vs Sateen Sheets
Two weaves. One standard.
The differences, at a glance.
Both fabrics are woven from the same long-staple cotton. The weave is what changes everything.
Percale
Sateen
Percale Sheets
Like a freshly pressed shirt.
Percale lives in the hand the way a fresh shirt does — light, structured, slightly crisp. With every laundering it relaxes a little more, until it sits on the bed like it's always been there.
It's the fabric you reach for on warm nights, when you want the bed to feel cool and freshly made.
How Percale is woven.
Percale is built on the simplest weave there is: one thread over, one thread under, repeated across the fabric.
The yarns lock evenly into each other, which produces three things you can feel: a matte finish that doesn't, microscopic air channels that let heat escape, and a structured drape that holds a crisp edge. It's the weave behind every great hotel bed for a reason.
What sleeping in Percale feels like.
Cooler Sleep
Air moves more freely through a Percale weave instead of trapping heat.
Lightly Structured
Percale lays cleanly on the bed, creating a polished, tailored look.
The Hotel Standard
Almost every great hotel bed in the world is Percale. You're sleeping in the same fabric.
Built to Last
A balanced weave is the most durable. Percale only gets better with washing.

Sateen Sheets
Smooth, lustrous, and indulgent.
Sateen is the fabric you reach for when the room is cool and the morning is slow. Smooth against the skin, lightly weighted, with a sheen that catches the light along the folds.
It drapes the way silk does, but holds its shape and softens beautifully with every wash.
How Sateen is woven.
Sateen is built on a four-over, one-under structure where each thread floats across four neighbors before tucking under. Those long floats lie almost flat on the surface, catching and reflecting light the way satin does (hence the name), and giving the fabric a silky feel the moment you touch it. The structure also adds quiet weight: Sateen drapes heavier than Percale, hangs in deeper folds, and lays across the bed with more presence.
What sleeping in Sateen feels like.
Silky in the Hand
Luxuriously soft against the skin, the way fine cotton should feel.
Elegant Drape
Falls beautifully across the bed, with a drape that lays smoother than Percale.
Subtle Sheen
A quiet luster that catches the light without ever looking glossy.
A Cozier Bed
The tighter weave keeps warmth close. Ideal for cooler climates.

More is not always better.
Choose by how you want your bed to feel, not by the highest number. Lower thread counts often feel lighter and airier; higher thread counts can feel smoother, denser, and more polished. The right choice depends on the fiber, the weave, and your own preferences.
